Jun. 15—KEYSER — A vacant Keyser commercial building that once housed a carpet business was extensively damaged by fire Thursday — the second time in about two years the structure has burned.

Two deputy state fire marshals with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office were probing the cause of the blaze at the former Keyser Carpet Outlet, which was reported to the 911 center by a passerby at 4:58 a.m.

There were reportedly no injuries.

Volunteer firefighters from Mineral, Hampshire, Grant, Allegany and Garrett counties battled the blaze that was extinguished by 7 a.m., but units remained at the scene throughout the afternoon Thursday.

The incident also drew the response of the Keyser Police Department for traffic control, Mineral County Sheriff's Office, the West Virginia Division of Highways for debris excavation and local utility companies.

The building, which had apartments on the second floor, was damaged by a fire in March 2021 and has reportedly been vacant since.
