Photos: Wind gust flips plane, damages several others at Centennial Airport

DENVER (KDVR) — Extreme winds blew across the Front Range Monday, causing damage to several planes at Centennial Airport and overturning one.

Photos shared by the airport show a single-engine, fixed-wing AT-4, which was blown over sometime before 6:30 a.m. In all, 12 aircraft sustained damage because of the high winds.

The National Weather Service recorded a wind gust of 75 mph at Centennial Airport at 6:28 a.m.

There were no injuries reported from the incident.

The winds in the Front Range were strong enough to cause significant issues to another airport as well: Hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled at Denver International Airport because of the winds.

Another wind gust caused an overhead Interstate 25 sign to fall and hit a semitruck.

Several thousand customers across the region were also impacted by power outages related to the powerful wind gusts.

According to Pinpoint Weather Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser, it will continue to be windy throughout the evening Monday, but the gusts will not be as powerful as they were in the morning.
