Winter's icy grip

Geese fly in to land of chunks of ice on the Hudson River Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, in New York City. Temperatures will struggle to climb out of the teens Thursday and they will quickly drop to about 2 degrees in the city by the evening. (Gordon Donovan/Yahoo News)

Winter's icy grip

It's been a tough winter throughout most of the United States, with below average temperatures and above average snowfalls. It's difficult to look at the ice, snow and slush as anything but an inconvenience, but these photographers seem to have captured the beauty of winter in the icicles both large and small.

Firefighters working to extinguish a blaze in Philadelphia amid bone-chilling temperatures left behind a building coated in icicles. An ice climber took advantage of the winter weather to climb an ice-covered cliff near Richard Russell Scenic Highway, one of Georgia's highest elevations.

Storms left trees ice-covered in Nashville and downed high-voltage lines on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville, Georgia.

But don't worry. Pitchers and catchers from many major league teams reported for spring training Wednesday. Warmer weather must be just around the corner.
