'Physical and mental challenge': Corn maze season is upon us

This week will mark opening day for several of the state's challenging and popular corn mazes, including Sauchuk's Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch in Plympton.

On weekends starting Saturday, visitors to Sauchuk's roughly 200 acres can take a hayride to the giant pumpkin patch – a sea of orange and white pumpkins – shoot apples  from the apple cannon, take a spin in the cow and bee trains, which are pulled around the corn maze, or enjoy family-friendly activities.

The corn maze this year is a nod to former Red Sox player David "Big Papi" Ortiz, and Sauchuk's will raise money for the David Ortiz Children’s Fund. Also new this season is a gem mining activity complete with a sluice and rushing water.
