The works were recently judged by York College Gallery Director Matthew Clay-Robison.

“This exhibition is filled with works that demonstrate impressive skill, brilliant use of color, dynamic composition, and inventive takes on the tradition of landscape.

"While I was generally impressed with the overall quality of the exhibition, the works that stood out most to me and were selected for awards are the ones that also carried a sense of truth about the area depicted; these are works that evoke immediate recognition, not just because they look like places I've been in York, but because I can feel them and even smell them. There is a feeling of honesty about them, depicting aspects of York ranging from the pretty to the gritty,” Clay-Robison said after judging.
