Fairview and Seneca basketball players win final Athlete of the Week polls of season

Basketball players from Fairview and Seneca took first place in the final polls of the winter sports seasons for the Erie County Athletes of the Week.

The Tigers' Bre Heidt and Bobcats' Evan Moffett won in polls based on last week's performances. More than 1,250 votes were cast in the GoErie.com/sports polls that ran Monday through Wednesday.

Here's a look at the Erie County Athletes of the Week:

Erie County Female Athlete of the Week

Bre Heidt, Fairview basketball: Her 18 points helped the Tigers repeat as District 10 champions with a 38-32 victory over Harbor Creek in the teams' Class 4A final at Joann Mullen Gymnasium.

Heidt, a sophomore, received 222 votes, or 34.47%, of the 644 total. Harbor Creek basketball player Hannah Smith finished in second with 162 votes (25.16%).

Erie County Male Athlete of the Week

Evan Moffett, Seneca basketball: His double-double (17 points and 13 rebounds) led the seventh-seeded Bobcats to a 58-44 upset of the fourth-seeded Fairview Tigers in District 10’s Class 3A third-place game.

Moffett, a senior, garnered 279 votes for a whopping 44.57% of the 626 total. Fairview swimmer Mitchell Myers was the runner-up with 95 votes (15.18%).

Athlete of the Week voting

Each week during the winter, Erie Times-News staff members selected nominees for the Female Athlete of the Week and the Male Athlete of the Week.

The two polls were posted on GoErie.com/sports each Monday at 5 p.m., and voting continued through Wednesday at 5 p.m. Votes will be limited to one per computer user or one per network.

Poll winners are not eligible for future polls from the current season.

This week's polls are the last for the District 10/PIAA winter sports season. The polls will return in April for the state's spring sports season.
