The fall high school sports season is now in full swing.

Competition is taking place in each with football being the last of the sports to get going late last week.

And with the action picking up, the annual Lansing State Journal high school athlete of the week poll has made its return.

Throughout the school year, readers will have a chance to vote to determine our high school athlete of the week winner. The candidates will be based on performances from the previous week. and can be nominated by coaches or readers The winner of the voting will be featured in the LSJ.

During each week, voting will be open until noon Wednesday. Voting is unlimited.

Athlete of week nominations can be submitted to bcalloway@lsj.com by Sunday evening each week.

Here's a look at this week's athlete of the week candidates.

Lucas Anderson, Fowlerville boys tennis

The Gladiators have opened the season with a 9-0-2 mark and Anderson has played a role. He posted straight set wins at No. 1 singles while helping Fowlerville post wins over Owosso and Lakewood last week. He picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win against Owosso’s Everett McVay on Aug. 22. On Wednesday, Anderson won 6-0, 6-0 over Lakewood’s Reily Teigeler.

Sydney Dausman, Haslett girls golf

The senior had a strong week while helping the Vikings win a CAAC Red jamboree and take third at the Sun-Dried Invitational at Mason. Dausman was the medalist in both events, shooting a round of 37 during the CAAC Red event on Tuesday. She had an even-par round of 71 while winning the Sun-Dried Invitational and finished two strokes ahead of runner-ups Alena Li of Okemos and Samantha Coleman of Northville.

Braden Hill, Charlotte football

Hill accounted for all four touchdowns for the Orioles in their season-opening road win at Olivet. He had an 80-yard kick return for a score in the 29-22 win. Hill finished with 166 yards rushing and two touchdowns and 49 receiving yards and a score.

Nolan Stump, Fowler football

Stump had a big season opener for the Eagles in their 29-0 victory over Carson City-Crystal, who was ranked No. 3 in Division 8 in the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association preseason poll. Stump rushed for an area-best 222 yards and had multiple touchdowns in the win.

Whitney Werner, Pewamo-Westphalia girls cross country

The sophomore kicked off her season with a personal-best time while helping the Pirates win the title at the Happy Acres Invitational hosted by Webberville. Werner finished with a time of 18:51.5 to win the event, which was nearly 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up. P-W had a team score of 30, which was 34 ahead of runner-up Sparta.
