Pop-up show, anyone?

Tennessean music scribe Matt Leimkuehler here with a tip that one hitmaking country band plans to play a surprise club show Friday night in Nashville.

We'll leave it up to you to figure out which group, but let's just say you won't need a "Hotel Key" to get in to see this not-so "One Man Band." Take those on-the-nose clues and head to the band's social pages to find out more on how to get into the gig.

Kenny Chesney's stadium return

After two summers of postponements, tour delays and uncertainty in live music, Kenny Chesney and his dedicated "No Shoes Nation" return to Nashville this weekend for a one-night show under the lights of Nissan Stadium.

I asked Chesney earlier this week about returning to a stadium-sized stage after a four-year hiatus.

  • He said: "In a way, it felt comfortable. But being away from what you do for four years, it in ways felt like learning how to walk again. You think you're going to go up there and just do it."

  • On leading a sold-out crowd again, he added: "The love that we felt from the audience was so wonderful. ... It was 60,000 people telling us they were so happy to be there."

Read on for a new interview with Chesney about country music's summer concert champion returning to the road after a two-year COVID-19 delay.

Not-so guilty pleasures

OK, guys. Remember: This is a *guilt-free* zone. Last week, I dished on a handful of albums in my collection that may raise a few eyebrows, and I asked you to do the same. What are some of your not-so-guilty pleasure albums?

  • Coco shared via Instagram: "Anything by Dave Matthews Band" (sorry, "Crash" defenders).

  • Vanessa shared via Twitter: "Absolutely nothing [guilty] about it, but I LOVE Wham’s 'Make It Big.'"

  • Sami shared via Instagram: "Song not album, but Dashboard Confessional - 'Screaming Infidelities'" (a shout-out to Nashville's adopted emo guardian Chris Carrabba!)

  • Angel shared via Instagram: "Probably any from Dustin Lynch or Carrie Underwood" (because, of course, we've all got those country songs we don't want others to know we *actually* love).

It's a holiday weekend. Go see some dang music.

Let's talk about two excellent options for live music in Nashville this weekend.

  • Musicians Corner: This free summer tradition celebrates Memorial Day weekend with a three-day show featuring a lineup of Nashville favorites: Fancy Hagood, Lilly Hiatt, Gramps Morgan, Elizabeth Cook and more.

  • ► Our pick: Head to Centennial Park early Friday to catch Leah Blevins, a country-roots storyteller who made her way into my regular rotation with last year's "First Time Feeling" album.

  • Nashville Helping Nashville: Lucinda Williams, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Katie Pruitt and more pay tribute to Neil Young at a show this Saturday that raises funds for Nashville's independent music venues.

  • ► Under the needle: The show features a "Record Store Row" where local shops plan to sling merch and LPs, according to Third Man Records.

Fest watch

We're two weeks away from CMA Fest and three weeks away from Bonnaroo (!!!). Let's keep it simple this week and highlight one of our essential artists from each festival this year.

  • CMA Fest: Carly Pearce. The reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year performs June 10 at Nissan Stadium — and we can't wait to hear her deliver stories from her head-turning 2021 album "29: Written In Stone."

  • Bonnaroo: Stevie Nicks. OK, OK. Choosing a headliner feels like a bit of a cop-out, I know. But how cool is it going to be to watch Stevie Nicks close down Bonnaroo when she headlines the final night of the festival? It may be the most-anticipated set of the weekend for this music fan.

Now, dig into more music headlines from Nashville this week.
