Here’s who you picked for Kansas City Star’s high school football Player of the Week

After a wild Week 1 of high school football in Kansas City, we asked coaches to send in their recommendations for players of the week. The votes are in, and our readers chose Ty Williams, a senior running back from Grain Valley.

Williams helped lead Grain Valley to a 46-42 victory over Fort Osage last Friday, finishing with 228 rushing yards and four touchdowns. It came at a cost, as Williams was knocked out of the game late in the fourth quarter after taking a hard hit to his quad.

Grain Valley head coach David Allie said they’ve used this week to recover, and Williams should be good to go for Friday’s matchup against Grandview.

”While Ty is one of our best players, he is an even better leader,” Allie said. “His dedication and support of his teammates led him to be elected by the team as one of our four captains this season.”

Williams gave a shoutout to his offensive line: “They work day in and day out and make me look way better than I actually am,” he said. “It was a group effort, and without everyone playing their part, we would not have secured the victory.”
