Pickup truck struck by train in Oliver Springs

An Oliver Springs man and his son are believed to have escaped serious injury after the pickup truck they were in was struck by a train on the railroad tracks in the ci on Saturday.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol preliminary report, 66-year-old Timothy Braden was driving the vehicle westbound on Main Street and failed to yield to the railroad signal lights. He crossed over the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing and the southbound train struck the vehicle in the left rear, the report stated.

The pickup truck's rear rotated counterclockwise after it was hit by the train. It came to rest at a 45-degree angle across both lanes of Main Street, the report stated.

The train engine, manned by engineer Mike W. Bryant and conducted by Andrew R. Denny, both of Burnside, Ky., traveled about one-fourth mile south when it stopped.

Riding with his father was Timothy Lewis Braden, 36, also of Oliver Springs. On Facebook, he said his father was knocked out and went to Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Lewis Braden said his own ribs and back were hurt. In later posts, he said he and his father were OK.

Both men were wearing their seatbelts, according to the THP report.
