Pictures: Fallen heroes honored at Walt Disney World

A Remembrance Garden of American flags with placards, each bearing a name representing more than 700 fallen servicemen and women from the armed forces of the post-9/11 era, is currently on display at Walt Disney World Coronado Springs Resort. The Remembrance Garden is part of a five-day healing retreat at the resort organized by the Gary Sinise Foundation, which includes workshops and other events, such as the Walk of Gratitude at Magic Kingdom—a ceremony where children of fallen military heroes wrote personal messages to their loved ones to recognize their memory and sacrifice. This special show took place on the Cinderella Castle stage early on Tuesday morning.

The annual retreat is part of the Gary Sinise Foundation Snowball Express event that first came to Disney World in 2018, and is one of the largest gatherings of its kind, with over 1,800 individuals from 80 cities around the nation and some coming from overseas, as far as Guam, Europe, and Australia.

“This whole event is about healing and giving families that share similar experiences of losing a loved one the opportunity to make new memories together, but not forget those that made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Donna Palmer, the executive director for the Gary Sinise Foundation.
