Pier 52 opens, Lagoon Bar debuts, Day of Portugal set: Fall River Eats

The weather is heating up and so is the Greater Fall River food scene.

With summer just around the corner, there is no better time than now to explore all the exciting things happening at your local restaurants, markets and food stops. A sure sign the season is nigh is the return of waterfront dining and, of course, feasts.

Here's a look at some meal deals, special events, and delicious offerings to consider when planning your next night on the town, or quick stop for a treat.

Opening day at Pier 52

Pier 52 is kicking off its fourth season on Friday at noon with some exciting updates to both the venue and the menu. There's an additional outdoor patio area where guests can enjoy dinner with a view of Mount Hope Bay - or lunch seven days a week, the latter of which is new in 2023. You'll also find some tasty additions to the menu such as their sushi sampler. They're also mixing things up with new salads, sandwiches - try the salmon burger or basil and avocado grilled cheese - and tacos, as well as expanded vegetarian options like udon noodle bowl and zucchini chips appetizer. And rounding out the warm weather fun is the return of its Brunch on the Bay music series and growing entertainment lineup Tuesday through Thursday. Cruise-up Lagoon Bar at Tipsy

Fresh off its opening weekend, the 2023 summer fun has just begun at the Tipsy Seagull. The tiki bar-style outdoor floating bar is back for its 16th year with drinks on the dock, pub grub, live music, swings to chill in and now something new. According to their Facebook page, you can "pull up by boat or car and avoid any wait for a cocktail" at their Lagoon Bar. Head to Borden Light Marina, and check it out for yourself at 1 Ferry St., Fall River.

It's festa time! Day of Portugal set

With summer around the corner, locals are gearing up for Portuguese festa season. Starting it off is Day of Portugal Fall River, which returns to the Gates of the City for a four-day celebration June 8 to 11. It debuts Thursday with a Taste of Portugal food tasting at the Empire Hyundai Pavilion starting at 6 p.m. This is a private event and tickets ($20) are required. In addition to afternoons and evenings chock full of live concerts by well-known Portuguese performers, a kids fair and activities, you can swing by their food court, which will be serving up an array of authentic Portuguese fare from local food trucks and restaurants. Enjoy a CHiPPi on the waterfront

The season opening for Mirasol's Cafe on Pier 3 will be Friday, May 26. You will be able to get your CHiPPi on the pier in less than two weeks. The signature drink, a supercharged iced coffee made with skim milk and Splenda comes in numerous flavors for you to try all summer long including caramel, chocolate, banana, coconut, mint, raspberry, strawberry, white chocolate, vanilla, and hazelnut. They also have grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, and pastries. Start your days with a trip to 52 Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 3, New Bedford.

Dinner for two for the price of one

Who doesn’t like a great deal on a seafood meal? At Turk's Seafood on Sundays and Mondays until 5 p.m. get not one but two broiled scrod dinners for $17.99.
