Pierre standout Lincoln Kienholz picks Washington for college football

Jun. 29—PIERRE, S.D. — Pierre quarterback Lincoln Kienholz said Wednesday, June 29, that he will play college football at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Kienholz, a member of the class of 2023, shared the news on Twitter. Washington hired South Dakota native Kalen DeBoer as its new head coach at the end of the 2021 season from Fresno State. The Huskies were 4-8 last season in the Pac-12.

The 6-foot-3 Kienholz made his name as a three-sport athlete for the Governors, who have won the last five Class 11AA state championships. As a junior, he led the team in passing and rushing, throwing for 3,356 yards and rushing for 1,165 yards. Kienholz completed 55 percent of his passes, passing for 280 yards per game and threw 37 touchdowns to only six interceptions. He also rushed for 12 touchdowns.

In May, Kienholz said he was narrowing his football choices to four: North Dakota State, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming,

It is the second straight year that a South Dakota quarterback recruit has committed to a Power Five FBS football program. Harrisburg's Jacob Knuth was a class of 2022 signee with the University of Minnesota.
