Piers Morgan has added to the pressure on David Walliams after the star made derogatory remarks about Britain’s Got Talent contestants.

Children’s book author Walliams has said sorry after making comments about contestants during the recording of an episode of the ITV entertainment show at the London Palladium. The comments were apparently picked up by microphones.

In a statement, he said: “I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain’s Got Talent in 2020.

“These were private conversations and — like most conversations with friends — were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.”

But broadcaster Morgan, who used to be a judge on the show and has previously criticised Walliams, shared a link to the story and wrote: “Tip of the iceberg. Walliams is one of the nastiest frauds in TV.”

In October 2020, Morgan claimed he had been offered a chance to return to the show but refused because he did not want to work with the former Little Britain comedian.

A spokesperson for Thames TV, the production company behind Britain’s Got Talent, said although Walliams’ comments were made in a private conversation, they were “inappropriate” and he had been “informed about the expectations as to future professional conduct.”
