Piers Morgan was mercilessly mocked on social media after jokingly asking his followers if he looked like George Clooney.

The broadcaster, 58, is currently on holiday in Antigua and shared a snap on Twitter and Instagram that showed him zooming along on a boat.

The TV star was sporting a bit of stubble and was wearing a pair of dark glasses as he posed for the camera, and asked fans what they thought of his new look.

“Clooney?” he asked.

“Or Compo from Last Of The Summer Wine?”

Someone tweeted as soon as the star posted the snap, warning with a laughing emoji: “The comment section here is going to go off like wildfire.”

“Haha.. I know..” replied the TV star.

Fans were thoroughly tickled by the tongue in cheek post, with one teasing Morgan: “You wish.”

“Looney more like it,” joked someone else.

“Ha ha ha ha ha no way Clooney,” said another fan.

Others said it was “an insult” to Last Of The Summer Wine's Compo Simmonite, who was played by late actor Bill Owen.

“More like the pigeon lady from Home Alone…” said one viewer.

Another remarked: “Do a smile Piers. Never know, you might look cute.”

However, others thought Morgan looked dashing, with some posting fire emojis and commenting on how “hot” he was.

Others even quipped that he would make a good 007 now that Daniel Craig has parked up his Aston Martin for good.

“Bond. Piers Bond!!” posted one person, as another asked if Bond boss Barbara Broccoli had called him yet.
