Piers Morgan says he was surprised he was asked to apologize to Meghan Markle over his comments about her on "Good Morning Britain," and said he expected an award instead.

Morgan appeared on "Hannity" on Fox News on Monday, where he discussed the statements he made about Markle on the British morning show.

"There was a weird, surreal kind of day on a day I left where having reached the ratings high, normally you would get invited to a boardroom and presented with a courage plaque," he told Sean Hannity on Fox News.

"But I got invited to either apologize to Meghan Markle for disbelieving her or leave the building. So I decided to leave the building," Morgan went on to say.

Morgan quit "Good Morning Britain" in March after speaking with ITV about his comments about Markle, including saying he didn't believe her accusations against the royal family.

Morgan's reaction to Prince Harry and Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey was largely criticized, particularly his comments regarding Markle's mental health.

The duchess told Oprah she had suicidal thoughts during her time as a senior member of the royal family and that the royal institution would not help her, which Morgan said must be a lie on "Good Morning Britain."

"Who did you go to? What did they say to you?" he said on "Good Morning Britain" in March. "I'm sorry, I don't believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn't believe it if she read me a weather report."

The UK broadcasting company OFcom received over 57,000 complaints about his remarks, which is a record for the company.

Morgan later stormed off the show after his colleague criticized his comments on air.

He quit the show after ITV asked him to apologize to Markle on air, which he referenced in his "Hannity" appearance.

Morgan has continued to criticize Harry and Markle since he left "Good Morning Britain," as his time on "Hannity" demonstrated.

Recently, Morgan took issue with the couple naming their daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in honor of the Queen, saying it is "ironic" after they have been "trashing the royal family and the monarchy" on Australia's "Today" show.
