Pill for COVID-19 could provide additional protection from virus

Maryland doctors say another tool in the fight against COVID-19 could be on the horizon. Dr. Andy Pekosz, a virologist with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, said the nation's first antiviral pill could be effective against the new variants COVID-19 and that it could be the first of at least a couple oral pills that can prevent severe COVID-19 symptoms. The Merck pill has already been approved in places like Europe. In the United States, similar approval could come as soon as next week.
