Pilot dies in plane crash in Fauquier County
FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Virginia State Police (VSP) said a pilot died in a plane crash in Fauquier County on Sunday afternoon.
Police said the crash happened on Dec. 3 at 3:54 p.m., near the intersection of Midland Rd. and Ebenezer Church Rd.

Authorities said a single-engine plane was attempting to land when it hit several trees, causing it to crash into a field and catch fire.
The pilot – the only occupant – died at the scene. No one on the ground was injured as a result of the crash.
“Tail number was November 7 6 Sierra Bravo and it’s a beech craft sundowner airplane,” says Warrenton-Fauquier Airport Director David Huss. Huss showed DC News Now a photo of what he says is the plane that went down near Midland Road and Ebenezer Church Road.
The investigation could take several months but Huss believes weather could have played a factor.
“All pilots know that there’s risk involved in flying especially during weather conditions he was flying in,” says Huss. “He was a local pilot, well-respected and he had a private pilot’s certificate and instrument license and a commercial rating…and it was unfortunate.”
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the crash.
The NTSB is asking any witnesses or anyone with surveillance footage to email them at witness@ntsb.gov.
