Pilots at Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines have overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike, the pilots' trade union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced on Tuesday.

A strike date has not yet been set, and the trade union has instead demanded that the airline return to the bargaining table with a new offer. According to the union, nearly 96% of pilots voted to authorize a strike.

The Lufthansa-owned holiday airline, which focuses on destinations popular with German holidaymakers, was initially launched in the summer of 2021 under the name Eurowings Discover.

The airline operates a fleet of 24 aircraft from Frankfurt and Munich on long- and medium-haul routes.

The trade union VC has declared collective bargaining negotiations for the pilots with Discover Airlines to have failed and accused the company of stalling.

Pilots staged a brief five-hour strike on December 23 but limited the impact on Discover passengers by allowing the airline to reschedule flights around the action.

Discover Airlines has also failed so far to reach a collective agreement with cabin crews.
