Pinch-hit RBI lifts Burlington Bees to victory over Cape Catfish in Prospect League

Charlie Terrill's pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth inning sent Sam Monroe home with the winning run and the Burlington Bees edged the Cape Catfish, 8-7, in a Prospect League baseball game at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Friday night.

Monroe led off the inning with a triple to right field. Terrill, pinch hitting for Tucker Cole, drove his single to center field and Monroe trotted home. The next three Bees struck out.

The Catfish threatened in the bottom of the inning, getting two base runners on a walk and a hit batsman with just one out. But Kolton Poorman grounded to shortstop for a game-ending double play.

The Bees took the lead in the first inning on Weston Fulk's two-run homer, but Cape scored a run in the second and two in the third for a 3-2 edge. The Bees regained the lead in the top of the fourth. Fulk scored an unearned run on an error to tie the score. Dawson Estep hit an RBI-single and Trey Adams followed with an RBI-fielder's choice for a 5-3 lead.

Cape regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run outburst, but Burlington went back on top in the fifth. Kevin Santiago sent a run home on a sacrifice fly and A.J. Henkle hit an RBI-double for a 7-6 edge.

The Catfish knotted it at 7-7 in the seventh.

C.J. Lewis picked up the win in four innings relief. He gave up one earned run on four hits and a walk. He struck out four. Kyle Maurer pitched the last inning for the save.

Cauy Massner of Mediapolis and Iowa Wesleyan University started on the mound for the Bees. He surrendered five earned runs on 10 hits and two walks in four innings. He threw 80 pitches, 52 of them strikes. He struck out three Catfish.

Fulk, Henkle and Chase Honeycutt each had two hits for the Bees.

The Bees (4-7) play at Cape (5-5) at 6:15 p.m. Saturday and head to Springfield (3-7) Sunday for a 2 p.m. game.
