Pine's Hannah Squier named FHSAA's Female Scholar Athlete of the Year

Pine School soccer senior Hannah Squier was selected as the Ronald N. Davis Female Scholar Athlete of the Year by the FHSAA on Monday.

Squier, along with Centennial flag football senior Kiahra Wood, were previously named to the Florida Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team in April of which 12 boys and 12 girls were chosen across the state for.

Both seniors received a $1,700 scholarship from the FHSAA and Squier was tabbed as the Scholar Athlete of the Year, which includes another $4,600 in scholarship funds.

Each athlete displayed the traits on and off the field that separated themselves from the pack. To be named to the Academic All-State Team, students needed to have an unweighted GPA of over 3.5, earn a varsity letter in two or more sports in their junior and senior years.

Squier ranked at the top of her senior class at Pine School with a 4.0 GPA and had a perfect score on the ACT. She is a National Merit Scholarship finalist and an AP Scholar with distinction and served as the Head Girls Prefect for the school.

Earning letters in soccer, tennis, swimming and diving and lacrosse throughout her high school career, Squier excelled the most in soccer.

Finishing her career with a school-record 116 goals, Squier scored 55 times in her senior year to help the Knights win their first ever state playoff match and she was selected as TCPalm's Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

Away from the field, Squier played the clarinet in concert and jazz band, was a member of the French National Honor Society and the school's MIT Invent Team where she helped design and build a remote water monitoring system that collects data from local estuaries.

Squier also completed over 150 community service hours and will head to Florida State University this fall to study biochemistry.

Wood had a 3.85 GPA and ranked seventh in her senior class at Centennial. Over the course of her Eagle career on the field, she earned 14 varsity letters across basketball, flag football, soccer, track and field and weightlifting.

She was the student government class president during her senor year and is a member of the National Honor Society, Jack and Jill of America, Precious Pearls Youth Group and Toastmaster Gavel Club Youth Group.

Earning over 600 community service hours, Wood is will be attending Florida A&M this fall and plans to study allied health and health science.
