Pinterest launches ad features to drive shopping

People like to use Pinterest’s online bulletin boards to get ideas on topics such as cooking and home decoration.

The online scrapbook company wants to further tap that interest by helping advertisers turn more of them into shoppers.

Pinterest said Wednesday it’ll roll out new features that will allow brands to plug products and ideas to its users.

The company said brands can upload their product catalogs. It will then automatically pull those items to create a slideshow ad tailored to users based on their interests. It’ll also make it easier for advertisers to produce video ads.

Its latest effort to forge closer ties to companies comes as TikTok, Facebook and other social media rivals compete for the lucrative e-commerce market with in-app shopping or virtual clothing try-ons.
