May 12—The Pittsburgh Pirates placed reliever Kyle Crick on the 10-day injured list with a right triceps strain and reinstated right fielder Gregory Polanco on Tuesday in a series of roster moves.

Polanco has been out since May 4, though the Pirates never offered an explanation for his stay on the 10-day IL. To make room for him on the active roster, the Pirates designated infielder/outfielder Hunter Owen for assignment. Polanco is hitting .200 with three doubles, three home runs and five RBIs in 24 games this season.

Crick had a 1.59 ERA despite not allowing a run in his first 11 appearances before being tagged for two earned runs in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Chicago Cubs. The right-hander hit the first batter he faced with a pitch, then walked the next and got a flyout before being replaced by Richard Rodriguez, who gave up run-scoring hits on a single and a double. Crick's stay on the IL is retroactive to May 10.

The Pirates selected the contract of left-handed reliever Chasen Shreve from Triple-A Indianapolis, where he has made two scoreless appearances. The Pirates signed Shreve to a minor league contract in February after he spent the 2020 season with the New York Mets.
