Pismo Beach police respond to ‘Mrs. Scary Badger’ doing some gardening in Oceano

Pismo Beach Police Department officers responded to their second badger call in just over a month Wednesday after another one of the critters showed up in an Oceano garden, according to a Facebook video posted by the department.

A month after a badger dubbed Mr. Angry Badger was nabbed by officers in a Shell Beach gas station, another badger was discovered outside a home in the 200 block of Surf Avenue in Oceano, the department said.

“We located Mr. Angry Badger’s wife, Mrs. Scary Badger, doing some early morning gardening,” the department said.

This “lone spirit” was found in the yard of a house in the area and likely lived under one of the homes in the neighborhood, the department said on Facebook.

The video shows the badger huddling in a corner against the fence growling at officers.

Eventually, the critter made her way under a house and likely returned to the hillside, the department said.

“We send her and the family our regards ... from a safe distance,” the post read.

Report badger sightings

Badgers are labeled a species of special concern by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which tracks the species’ whereabouts and studies its behavior.

“Although badgers are widely distributed in the state, they may be comparatively uncommon or absent from some areas where they historically occurred,” the agency says on its website. “Badgers are primarily solitary, although breeding pairs and family groups are sometimes observed.”
