Pistons’ Saddiq Bey calls Killian Hayes unique given his court vision

Detroit Pistons rookie Killian Hayes has only logged 11 appearances this season, but the seventh overall pick has already impressed some of his teammates on the offensive end of the floor.

Specifically, Hayes has dazzled at times as the lead guard on the floor with the Pistons. He entered the NBA touted as a player capable of getting his teammates involved while also creating for himself, and that skill set has been on display.

His passing ability has stood out perhaps more than anything to this point of the season as he has already dished out a number of highlight-worthy assists. He has played in four games since returning from a hip injury and teammate Saddiq Bey is glad to have him back given that ability.

“It was great to be able to play with him again,” Bey said on Tuesday. “Actually, I think his first game back, it didn’t seem like he really missed a beat. His rhythm was still on. He might have had I think five assists coming back in his first game. I was just saying that’s how unique he is and his vision at such a young age to get guys open and create on his own is special.”

From setting up his teammates on the break or in the halfcourt, Hayes seemingly knows where everyone is going to be and has a knack for hitting them at the right time. He has already developed quite a tandem with the likes of Hamidou Diallo and Isaiah Stewart among others.

Of course, Hayes is still just scratching the surface on his potential. His game will only improve the more he plays but he has shown some flashes of what he can become in a very small sample size. The rest of the season will be key for his development, but he appears to be on the right track.
