TECUMSEH — There is a new Greek/Mediterranean restaurant that’s taken off like gangbusters in Tecumseh.

Pita Delight Grill is at 109 E. Chicago Blvd. and offers falafel, grape leaves, moussaka, chicken shawarma, gyros, beef kabob and Turkish kabob, just to name a few. They cook to order and use fresh ingredients sourced locally.

“We opened a day before Appleumpkin and since we’ve been really busy, slammed. We tried to be open seven days a week, but we were too busy. We decided to close on Wednesdays,” owner Ali Alaawar said.

As a young child, Alaawar said, he always loved to cook. He learned to cook alongside his mom and aunt. Food was always a way to bring people together and a main staple of family gatherings.

Over the years, Alaawar became a great cook, getting many compliments. After graduating college in Europe, Alaawar decided to move to the U.S. and began managing his family’s Mediterranean restaurant in Ann Arbor. It was there that he developed a strong presence in the community.

In 2013, Alaawar decided to open his own food truck business, Pita Delight Grill. He would travel to festivals and events all over Michigan. It was such a hit that Alaawar decided it was time to convert his food truck business into his own restaurant.

Because his food truck was so popular in Tecumseh and he loved the community, he decided to bring his love of Mediterranean food and people to Tecumseh.

Alaawar said he is happy to be a part of the community and that opening this restaurant is a dream come true for him. It is his hope that the restaurant will serve as a wonderful meeting place for all people to enjoy his food and relax for many years to come.

Alaawar still owns the food truck and travels to many events.
