Pitch Perfect: Gull Lake's Johnson leads All-Enquirer Girls Soccer Team
After a couple of years away, perennial power Gull Lake had a return to glory as the girls soccer team advanced to the Final Four.
Along the way, the Blue Devils won a league crown, beat No. 1 Marshall for a district title and came away with a regional championship trophy.
For those successes, Gull Lake's Colton Johnson is the 2022 All-Enquirer Girls Soccer Team Coach of the Year.
The All-Enquirer Girls Soccer Team is selected by nominations from the city and area coaches and voted on by the Enquirer sports staff.
Gull Lake returned to the Final Four for the first time since 2018 and was a game away from the school's first state title since 2015. The Blue Devils finished the season ranked No. 6 in Division 2 with a 19-3 mark.
Joining Johnson on the All-Enquirer team are five Gull Lake players, including Mackenzie Ford, Maddy Bilbia, Aleah Minehart, Lilah Smith and Alex French.
Marshall had an undefeated regular season and climbed to No. 1 in the rankings and adds six players to the All-Enquirer team in Ella McAllister, Madelyn St. John, Addie Waito, Brooke Waito, Mallory Tucker and Ashlynn Giannunzio.
Lakeview finished as All-City champs with five All-Enquirer players, including Jhanaj Quispe, Sydney Ross, Ella Seiler, Rikka Grauballe and Sophia Thawnghmung.
Also from the city making the squad are Pennfield's Maya Walters, Emily Lane, Kendall Rahn, Harper Creek's Rachel Meyer, Lauren Higgs, Alyssa Smith, Battle Creek Central's Bri Noorg and Emma Shugars and Mimi Hibbard of the St. Philip/Calhoun Christian co-op squad.
Elsewhere in the area, Coldwater adds Anna DeMeester and Masyn Marsh and Olivet adds Ava Hernandez and Evey Stenger.
