Gallen fired five strong innings against the Mets in his second start, going an inning deeper than he did in his first start of the season the previous week. In all, he has given up just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out nine. … Gallen has used his curveball more than any of his secondary pitches, getting whiffs on 35.3 percent of the swings taken. … He owns a 2.88 ERA in his career against the Dodgers. He posted a 3.63 ERA against them in three starts last season. … Urias has logged five quality innings in back-to-back starts, most recently giving up just one run on two hits and three walks against the Padres. … He has dominated the Diamondbacks in his career, notching a 1.55 ERA and a 7-1 record in 40 2/3 innings. … His fastball velocity is down from last year, going from 94.1 mph to 92.2 mph.

Dodgers update: The Dodgers are off to a typically strong start, entering Sunday with 10 wins in their first 14 games. Their pitching staff leads the league with a 2.24 ERA while their offense is second with 5.14 runs per game. The Diamondbacks will miss LHP Clayton Kershaw, who fired seven perfect innings in his first start. They also will miss LHP Andrew Heaney, who was dominant through two starts before landing on the injured list with shoulder discomfort. 1B Freddie Freeman is hitting .327/.406/.491 with two homers, a nice start to his Dodgers career. LF Chris Taylor is at .317/.408/.439. CF Cody Bellinger, who had a brutal spring, has more than held his own to open the season, hitting .255 with two homers despite 18 strikeouts in 51 at-bats. The Dodgers will be trying to continue their recent dominance over the Diamondbacks. They went 16-3 vs. the Diamondbacks in 2021 and 8-2 in 2020.
