Pitchers: Diamondbacks LHP Madison Bumgarner (6-10, 3.96) vs. Pirates RHP Mitch Keller (3-8, 4.21).

Bumgarner allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings against the Rockies on Friday, taking the no decision in a game the Diamondbacks would win, 6-5. … Bumgarner owns a 3.29 ERA in 11 career starts against the Pirates, but he has limited experience against their current hitters. He has faced OF Bryan Reynolds the most, with Reynolds going 4 for 9 with two doubles. … Keller, one of the top pitching prospects in the game, has been unable to fully deliver on expectations so far his career, posting a 5.32 ERA in parts of four seasons. … He has pitched much better in recent weeks, logging a 3.15 ERA in his past 14 games (12 starts). Part of his success might be attributable to the adoption of a two-seam fastball in late May. … He averages between 94-96 mph with his fastball. He also throws a high percentage of sliders and curveballs with the occasional change-up.

Pittsburgh Pirates

The Diamondbacks have already seen the Pirates once so far this season, when they traveled to Pittsburgh and lost two of three games. The Diamondbacks and the Pirates will meet again for the second and final time this season, this time at Chase Field. The Pirates have won just one of their first nine games since the All-Star break, but swept the then-NL Central first place Brewers in a three-game series Aug. 2-4. The Pirates are coming to Arizona from Baltimore, where they lost two of three games to the Orioles over the weekend. The Pirates' only All-Star, relief pitcher David Bednar, went on the 15-day IL on Aug. 2 with lower back inflammation. The Pirates also released first baseman Yoshi Tsutsugo, who was hitting .171 in the 2022 season, on Aug. 5. Center fielder Bryan Reynolds is leading the Pirates with a .255 batting average, .339 on base percentage and 16 home runs.
