Gallen had a rough outing against the Phillies on Friday, giving up six runs (four earned) in 1 2/3 innings, the shortest start of his career. He was hurt by 2B Ketel Marte’s error in the second inning on a ball that could have been an inning-ending double play. … It was just the second time in 11 starts this season that Gallen has allowed more than two earned runs. … Gallen faced the Reds once last season, giving up three runs in 5 2/3 innings. … Castillo gave up one run in six innings against the Cardinals in his most recent start, walking one and striking out three. … He has a  2.45 ERA in his past five starts, with nine walks and 30 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings. … He is averaging 96 mph with his fastball. He also throws a change-up and slider.

Pitchers: Diamondbacks RHP Zach Davies (2-3, 4.21) vs. Reds RHP Tyler Mahle (2-5, 5.07).

TV/Radio: Bally Sports Arizona/KMVP-FM (98.7), KHOV-FM (105.1).

Davies tied a season-high in strikeouts with seven against the Reds in Cincinnati last week. However, he gave up three runs in six innings and wasn’t quite able to replicate his excellent start in Pittsburgh, where he went 7 2/3 scoreless. The Diamondbacks, though, prevented Davies from taking the loss with a four-run ninth to win, 5-4. … Mahle was fantastic in that same game. He struck out 10 and allowed just one run in six innings. … For his career, he has a 2.57 ERA in 21.0 innings against the Diamondbacks. … Mahle’s best pitch is a 93.5 mph fastball that he’s thrown 49.5% of the time this year.

Cincinnati Reds

The Diamondbacks just split a four-game series with the Reds last week in Cincinnati, winning the final game of the series thanks to a five-run rally in the ninth inning. The Reds went on to St. Louis, dropping two of three against the Cardinals, including losing in a walk-off on Saturday. 3B Brandon Drury, the former Diamondbacks infielder, is having a strong season for the Reds, hitting .272/.335/.511 with a team-leading 11 home runs. RHP Luis Castillo, whom the Diamondbacks missed last week, has been their best starter, logging a 3.23 ERA with 37 strikeouts and 13 walks in 39 innings. He is expected to pitch in Wednesday’s series finale. The Reds bullpen has had a hard time this month, with a 7.29 ERA in 33 1/3 innings. However, the rotation has posted a 3.23 ERA through 11 starts in June.
