Diamondbacks at Guardians

When: 4:10 p.m., Tuesday.

Where: Progressive Field, Cleveland.

Pitchers: Diamondbacks RHP Zac Gallen (5-2, 3.24) at Guardians RHP Triston McKenzie (7-7, 3.24).

TV/Radio: Bally Sports Arizona/KTAR-AM (620), KHOV-FM (105.1).

Gallen gave up two runs (one earned) in five innings against the Giants in his most recent start. … In his past three starts, he owns a 1.45 ERA (three earned runs in 18 2/3 innings), with three walks and 17 strikeouts. ... He has never faced Cleveland, but has held 1B/OF Josh Naylor (0 for 5), SS Amed Rosario (1 for 4) and C Austin Hedges (0 for 4) in check in the past when they were on other teams. … McKenzie gave up four runs in seven innings against the Red Sox on Thursday. That outing snapped a string of four consecutive dominant performances in July in which he had allowed just one run in 26 2/3 innings. … McKenzie has a three-pitch mix: a fastball that averages 92.4 mph, a slider at 87.5 and a curve at 79.6. The fastball and curveball have been the most effective offerings, and even though opposing hitters have done damage on the slider, McKenzie has registered a solid 26.9 percent whiff rate on the pitch.

Cleveland Guardians

Guardians update: The Guardians entered Sunday with just a 51-49 record, but it was good enough to leave them two games back of the first-place Minnesota Twins in the American League Central. The Guardians rank seventh in the AL with 4.4 runs per game and are fifth with a 3.90 ERA. 3B Jose Ramirez is having a characteristically strong season at the plate, hitting .289/.363/.575 with 34 doubles, four triples and 21 home runs. He has more walks (42) than strikeouts (40). 2B Andres Gimenez, who was part of the return in the SS Francisco Lindor trade with the New York Mets, is having a breakout year, with a .299/.361/.493 line. He has 12 homers and eight steals. 1B Josh Naylor also is having the best season of his career; he is hitting .282 with 17 doubles and 14 homers. The Diamondbacks are set to face the Guardians’ three best starters in RHPs Shane Bieber, Triston McKenzie and Cal Quantrill. RHP Emmanuel Clase has been one of the best closers in the majors. He has a 1.28 ERA with 22 saves in 24 chances. This will be the Diamondbacks’ fourth trip to Cleveland in franchise history. They played there in 2002, 2005 and 2014, going 3-5 in eight games.
