Pittsburgh area Jenny Craig locations shut down after company-wide closure
Wednesday, 11 News found lights out and doors locked at Jenny Craig locations across the area as the weight loss company that has been around for four decades is closing for good.
Workers told us off-camera they are in shock and trying to process how quickly they learned they’ll be out of a job.
Jenny Craig workers tell Channel 11 they were under the impression the company was closing all storefronts and transitioning to an online weight loss platform, but overnight, the company announced a complete closure.
An email sent to employees late last night said they’re closing due to an inability to secure additional financing.
Workers tell us that just a month ago, the company was still posting job opportunities on LinkedIn and offering new employee training.
The once very popular company was founded in 1983 to help people lose weight and the brand became a household name, with many celebrities endorsing their products, including Kirstie Alley, Valerie Bertinelli and Mariah Carey.
Jenny Craig operated approximately 500 company-owned and franchised stores in the U.S. and Canada and employed more than 1,000 workers
At the Mount Nebo location, doors were locked Tuesday, but the business still looks operational inside, nothing has been removed yet.
