A Pittsburgh couple was supposed to get married on Marco Island this week but now they’ve had to postpone due to Hurricane Ian. However, the bride tells Channel 11 that’s not her biggest concern.
“We have so many friends that are already down there that were waiting for us, they went early and made a trip,” said Lisa Mehalick.
At least 20 of Mehalick’s wedding guests are already on Marco Island ahead of the weekend’s festivities.
Officials there are declaring a state of emergency and telling everyone to stay off the roads and to shelter in place.
“They are down there without power, their generator is going already, it’s bad.”
All in all, Mehalick says a wedding can always be rescheduled. She tells Channel 11, right now, her focus is for the safety of all who find themselves in the path of Hurricane Ian.
“I’m worried about them. Truly. I’ll be fine. This is a correctable situation as far as postponing a wedding, I can deal with that all day long, but I’m worried about my friends that are down there braving the storm. That part is not good,” said Mehalick.
Mehalick says she was able to get refunds from her wedding vendors, and she’s willing to help any of her guests who aren’t able to be reimbursed for travel and hotel costs.
