Pittsburgh gearing up for busy Fourth of July weekend
Pittsburgh will be buzzing this Independence Day weekend.
With activities like Anthrocon, a Pirates home series, fireworks and more, thousands will flock to the Steel City.
The crowds are a welcome scene for many, signaling a pre-pandemic holiday return.
“It’s nice to see as long as everybody is being safe. I mean, COVID is still out there,” Willem Kenway, in town for Anthrocon, said.
But, the influx of people can present some logistical issues, especially for Monday’s fireworks. Pittsburgh Public Safety is issuing a ‘heads up’ for the weekend ahead.
Officials advise travelers to use public transit if possible and drivers should be aware of posted road closures.

For those heading to the Point Monday, be aware that park rangers will be checking bags. More than a dozen temporary light towers will also be in place in highly traveled pedestrian areas.
A reminder, those fireworks start at 9:35 p.m. on Monday. They will be broadcast exclusively on Channel 11.
