Pittsburgh Marathon preparing for big year, big economic impact

Pittsburgh’s biggest sporting event is ready to get back to normal.

While the Penguins, Pirates and Steelers all draw big game day crowds, none can compare to the crowd that comes out for the Pittsburgh Marathon. With more than 30,000 participants and 300,000 spectators, it’s an event that draws people and dollars to the city.

After a couple of years of virtual races due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the race was in-person once again last year, and this year, it’s expected to be even bigger.

According to Troy Schooley, CEO of P3R, the organization that puts on the marathon, registrations are up about 20% over last year.
