Pittsburgh neighborhood evacuated after gunfire erupts while officers tried to serve eviction notice

A Pittsburgh neighborhood was evacuated Wednesday after a now-deceased person who was reportedly facing eviction began firing a gun inside a home.

The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office said its officers were serving an eviction notice when the occupant of the home began firing a gun Wednesday morning. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mike Manko noted that one of their officers suffered a non-gunfire injury while avoiding the shots, adding that the officer is OK.

The incident, which was previously described on Wednesday as an “extremely active situation with shots continuing to be fired,” was resolved after the subject was announced to be deceased by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Emergency Medical Services at 5:08 p.m. EST.

Police were evacuating homes in the 4800 block of Broad St. just after noon Wednesday, Pittsburgh Public Safety previously announced,

Many police and emergency vehicles could also be seen responding to the situation, which occurred just a few blocks from a children’s hospital.
