Pittsburgh Public Works searching for holiday tree to be displayed at City-County Building

Pittsburgh Public Works is looking for the 107th holiday tree to display in front of the City-County Building downtown for the holiday season.

“Even though it’s September, Forestry is busy with holiday planning,” says city forester with the Department of Public Works, Lisa Ceoffe. “We are excited to find the perfect tree for the City-County Building this year and look forward to celebrating the holiday season with Pittsburgh.”

According to a news release, the holiday tree is one of Downtown Pittsburgh’s oldest traditions, with the first put up at the construction site of the City-County Building in 1914.

The tree is considered Pittsburgh’s official Christmas tree through the New Year, according to the Mayor’s Office.

Officials said the tree can be any evergreen variety and should be a minimum of 40 feet tall.

Last year’s tree was a blue spruce planted in the 1990s and was donated by the Fuga family from Pittsburgh’s Lincoln Place neighborhood, officials said.
