Pittsburgh truck driver killed in second fatal crash on Route 77 near Spartansburg

CORRY — A Pittsburgh man was killed Wednesday morning when the truck he was driving crashed on a curve near Spartansburg, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The crash happened about 4 miles southwest of a crash on Tuesday morning in which a Spartansburg man died.

The driver in Wednesday's accident, Richard F. Darges, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene following a crash that happened at about 8:15 a.m. on Route 77 in Sparta Township, just west of Spartansburg, state police in Corry reported.

According to troopers, Darges was driving a Freightliner that was traveling north on Routes 77/89 when he lost control on a curve where Route 77 continues east at an intersection with Route 89 and Canadohta Lake Road. The truck went into a grassy area and overturned on its driver's side, state police reported.

In the previous accident, state police in Corry reported that Donald R. Stanbro, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving south on Route 77 in Concord Township, Erie County, north of Spartansburg, left the roadway and struck a tree near Welch Hill Road. That crash was reported on Tuesday at about 10:45 a.m.
