Pittsford competes in the annual Addison Relays
In one of the more unique events of the spring track and field season, the annual Addison relays see teams participate in multiple competitions that many athletes will not run in the rest of their season. The annual invitational provides student-athletes and fans an entertaining experience both for participants and spectators.
The Pittsford Wildcats varsity track and field teams traveled to the Addison Relays on Friday, April 29. The Wildcats competed against seven other schools including Michigan Center and Onsted. Some of the interesting events that Wildcats participated in included shuttle hurdle relays; sprint medley relays and a thrower relay that sees athletes carry a discus instead of a baton.
Pittsford boys track and field had several individuals and relay teams place in the top three at the Addison Relays. The Wildcat 4x300; 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams all took third place or higher in their respective races. The SMR 100-300-600-200-meter team finished in first place. Patrick VanDusen had a personal record 39' shot put throw to take third overall. Senior Blake Clement took second place in the pole vault final with a pole vault final of 9'. Kade Spahr took first place in the long jump competition. Spahr had a jump of 18' 11.5".
The girls track and field team had individual athletes place in the top three of their events. Freshman Ava Mallar took second in the 1600-meter run. Mallar also took second place in the 300-meter hurdles with a PR time of 49.30. The 4x300 meter relay team took second place. The SMR 100-300-600-200 meter team took first place. Freshman Savannah Watkins took first place in the pole vault competition with a final jump of 7' 3".
