Pittston receives funding to rehab homes

May 21—The city was awarded $300,000 through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program to support affordable housing, Gov. Tom Wolf announced Thursday.

The money will be used to to rehabilitate up to 14 owner-occupied homes. While the whole of Pittston is not considered low-income, certain block groups within the city are composed of at least 51% of low- to moderate-income residents; 16.3% of the city's population is over the age of 65, and 19.4% are disabled.

Wolf said more than $7 million will be distributed to 13 counties. The program provides federal funding to assist municipalities and local governments in expanding and preserving a supply of affordable housing for low- and very-low-income residents.
