There's an adage in hockey that if you're still playing when the weather gets warm, you're having a pretty darn good season.

For a hockey team like the Coachella Valley Firebirds playing in the desert where it's summer year-round, that doesn't really apply. But as we settle in for another post-season series and another extra-hot summer, we locals may have forgotten that for the rest of the AHL, the desert climate and scenery this time of year is a reason to get excited.

Enter the Milwaukee Admirals' Twitter account (@mkeadmirals) to remind us how lucky we are.

The Admirals are in town for the Western Conference final and will start a best-of-seven series with the Firebirds starting on Thursday. The team's Twitter feed has been rife with comments about what an unusual setting the desert is for pro hockey.

Inside the matchup: Coachella Valley Firebirds vs. Milwaukee Admirals

After a tweet showing a plane leaving Milwaukee on Monday destined for the West Coast, the first thing the Admirals' handle tweeted when they arrived was this in all caps: "Y’ALL LIVE HERE YEAR ROUND? THIS PLACE IS INCREDIBLE."

That was followed by a classic palm tree photo with the phrase "Toto, I've a feeling we're not Wisconsin anymore."

Then came a reference to the desert being a spot frequented by the rich and famous: "Don’t the Kardashian’s hang out here? Do you think they wanna come to a game?"

I can report to the Admirals that no Kardashian or Jenner has attended a Firebirds game yet, though the family does own a desert home in La Quinta.

And the most recent desert-related tweet was a simple map pin that said "Hockeytown, USA or something like that." with a photo of another cluster of palm trees at what appears to be the Coachella Valley Preserve.

While the temperature in Milwaukee was in the 70s when the team left on Monday, the forecasted high temperature on Wednesday in Milwaukee is 55 degrees. At Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert where the two teams will play in Thursday's series opener, Wednesday's high is expected to be around 97 degrees.

Each tweet had several attached comments from desert dwellers offering up restaurant suggestions, welcoming tips to stay cool, and of course some obligatory pro-Firebirds salvos.

Here's hoping the Admirals' Twitter team continues to enjoy their time in the Coachella Valley. And thanks for the reminder that even as we settle in for another brutal summer, we shouldn't take our desert for granted.
