Plain Township firefighters extinguish house fire

PLAIN TWP. – Township firefighters put out a fire Wednesday evening that broke out in a home under renovation at 2215 Brookdale Street NW.

Township Fire Chief Chuck Shallenberger said a husband and wife had been renovating the 1-1/2-story house before moving in. Shortly before 5:28 p.m., they arrived and found smoke in first-floor hallway inside the home. The couple then left and called 911.

No one was hurt.

Shallenberger said firefighters had the fire under control in about 15 minutes. Investigators will work on determining the cause.

Firefighters did not see any indication of arson. Much of the first floor and some of the second floor sustained smoke damage. The fire did not spread beyond the first floor.

The North Canton fire department provided firefighters and an engine truck as a precaution in case more manpower was needed with temperatures over 90 degrees. The home is in a neighborhood north of 38th Street NW and a few blocks west of Cleveland Avenue NW.
