Plains 4-H Communication Days crowns winners

Mar. 23—Plains 4-H Communications Days Finals was a big success, thanks in part to the hard work all the 4-H volunteers did, with special thanks to Juli Thurston.

The top four junior presenters will receive a full scholarship to the 4-H camp and the top three of the senior presenters can go on to compete in the Montana 4-H Congress.

It took lots of hard work and studying to reach the finals. The skills needed to arrive at the communications days finals included knowledge of the subject they chose. How well they answered questions from the judges and the level of confidence each student showed during the presentation.

Junior presenters gave their presentations in front of volunteer Judges Lacey Scharfe and Ray Brown. The senior presenters gave theirs in front of Karen Dwyer, Rusty Kinkade and Colette Morgon.

The senior presenters included:

Mikiah Cook's subject was about Different Types of Leadership. Aubrey Tullock's subject was Mad Today, Dead Tomorrow, Prion Diseases. Claire Wroblesk's subject was A Key to Observing Nature.

Junior presenters were:

Colt Browning, Tracking the Pack. Katherine Wrobleski, Reach for the Stars. Melodie Cook, Bees. John McNamara, Feeding and Caring for your Pet Snakes. Anaelle Avilla, Braiding An Ancient Art Continued.

One of the presentations that brought the most attendees was by John McNamara's Feeding and Caring for your Pet Snake. As McNamara removed the snakes from the cages to demonstrate how he fed the snakes, both judges moved their table and chairs a bit further away, much to the laughter from the audience.

4-H Communications Days is another important step for our youth to develop their communication skills and public speaking skills.
