Hillsboro's Kinley Richardson wins The State Journal-Register's athlete of the week poll

Hillsboro's Kinley Richardson won The State Journal-Register's athlete of the week poll.

She generated 2,718 votes (37%) for first place while Gillespie's Emma Gipson was second (1,950) and North Mac's Kaelyn Swift was third (779).

The poll closed at noon on Friday. Information about the nominees is below. Rushville-Industry's Italee Ford won last week's poll.

Raelyn Brammer, Pleasant Plains, girls soccer

The freshman forward tallied a goal and two assists — all in the first half — en route to an 8-0 victory over Auburn on Friday. She first found Kendall Sims for a 3-0 lead with less than 19 minutes remaining in the first half. She netted the next goal before dishing another assist to Ella Wilcockson for a 5-0 advantage in a span of under three minutes.

Kendall Davis, Petersburg PORTA/A-C Central, baseball

The sophomore reeled off a 3-run double and a 3-run home run for six RBIs in a 17-7 nonconference win over Rochester on Friday.

Emma Gipson, Gillespie, softball

The junior standout finished 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and home run and tossed a complete game in an 11-4 South Central Conference win over Vandalia on Tuesday. She finished with three RBIs and two runs offensively. In the circle, she struck out nine and allowed eight hits, three walks and four runs (three earned).

James Harris, Lanphier, boys track and field

The senior swept the 100- and 200-meter dash at the Capital City Classic on Saturday. He won the 100 in 11.32 seconds and 200 in 22.48, the latter set a personal record.

Adam Hernandez, Pawnee, boys track and field

Pawnee's senior was a triple winner at the Pana Open on Saturday. He won the 200-meter dash in 23.34 seconds and swept the two hurdles events. In the 110-high hurdles, he crossed first in 16.04 seconds and won the 300-intermediate hurdles in :42.13.

Shaun Jeffers, Riverton, baseball

The senior cracked a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game and Riverton defeated Athens 12-0 in six innings of a nonconference contest. Jeffers also hit a solo home run in the third to finish with five RBIs.

Jackson Kern, Auburn, boys track and field

The senior set meet records in both hurdles events to help the Trojans top the 11-team field in the Staunton Invitational Bulldogs vs. Cancer Meet on Friday. Kern won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.42 seconds and won by a half second. In the 300-intermediate hurdles, Kern beat out teammate Nathan Barth with a meet record 39.49 seconds. Barth and Kern helped Auburn win the 4x100-meter relay in :45.65. Kern won the Class 1A state title in the 300 hurdles in 38.14 last year.

Taylor Offer, Rochester, girls soccer

The sophomore reeled off two goals to lead the Rockets to a 2-0 Central State Eight Conference win over Sacred Heart-Griffin on Wednesday. Rochester (8-1-1 overall 4-0 CS8) has not lost since its opener against Edwardsville on March 13.

Kinley Richardson, Hillsboro, girls soccer

The junior netted a hat trick and two assists in a 6-3 nonconference win over Centralia on Monday. She followed with another hat trick in a 6-0 South Central Conference win over North Mac on Tuesday, then had three assists in a 4-2 nonconference win over Jerseyville on Wednesday. She ended the electrifying week with two goals and an assist against SCC foe Staunton on Thursday. She leads the team with 14 goals this year.

Emma Sneddon, Nokomis, softball

The senior smacked the go-ahead RBI double in the 12th and final inning and Nokomis surged to a 9-8 nonconference win over Taylorville in extras on Wednesday. NHS rallied to 7-4 lead by the sixth inning after trailing 4-0. Sneddon hit a line drive to left field to score Presley Mehochko and led the offense with three hits.

Kaelyn Swift, North Mac, girls track and field

The sophomore lived up to her name by winning the three dash events and North Mac took first in seven events to easily win the Staunton Invitational Bulldogs vs. Cancer Meet on Friday. Swift won the 100-meter dash in 13.55 seconds, the 200 dash in :27.98 and crossed first in the 400 in 1 minute, 6.41 seconds.

Grant Tode, Chatham Glenwood, boys track and field

The senior swept both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles at the Capital City Classic on Saturday. Tode won the 110 in 15.38 seconds and the 300 in 32.02. Glenwood won the team title out of 16 teams.
