Plan submitted for Popeyes restaurant
Apr. 17—HIGH POINT — Development plans have been submitted to the city of High Point for a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant at 2629 N. Main St., according to public records.
A preliminary site plan for a project called "Popeye's High Point" was uploaded to the city's Build High Point website on Tuesday.
The plan shows a 3,163-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru that would be built from the ground up in front of an existing building occupied by Quality Self Storage.
The 2.3-acre site is between an Arby's restaurant and the shopping center that's anchored by Harbor Freight Tools at N. Main Street and W. Hartley Drive.
If built, this would be the first High Point location for the fast-food chain, which is known for its fried chicken sandwiches.
Sam Hinnant, a senior planner with the city, said the site is already zoned to accommodate a drive-thru restaurant, so the project would not require approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council.
The site plan shows parking for the restaurant would be on both sides of the building and in the rear, in front of the self-storage building.
"From what I understand, they're still proposing to maintain all existing structures," Hinnant said.
The applicant who submitted the site plan to the city, civil engineer Mack Summey Jr. of Asheboro, did not return a call for comment.
The owner of the property, a limited liability company with a Texas address, could not be reached.
Restaurant Brands International, which owns Popeyes, did not respond to a request for comment.
