Halloween Costume Contest & Free Candy Bag from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at FunCity.

Mount Pleasant Community Theater presents “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculation” by Don Zolidis at 2 p.m. at the Theatre Museum of Repertoire Americana, 405 E. Thresher Road. Admission is a freewill donation at the door.

Trunk or Treat from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at First Christian Church of Burlington. Wear your costumes and come for candy, music and a bounce house.

Hallow’s Eve Expo at 10 a.m. at Catfish Bend Convention & Event Center. Enjoy a day of “spook-tacular” fun at Catfish Bend, with a craft & vendor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids Halloween costume contest and candy giveaway from 1 to 6 p.m., an exclusive Halloween drawing at Catfish Bend Casino and lots more.

Halloween Hangover Brunch is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Wedding & Event Center. Cure that Halloween hangover with all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage, live music and a (cash) bloody-mary-and-mimosa bar. $10 per person covers brunch and entertainment.

Monday, Oct. 31

Haunted Shop is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 to 11 p.m. at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington. SCC Auto Club dares you to make your way through the Haunted Shop! From 7 to 11 PM, admission is $5, or $4with a canned food item for local food pantries. Not ready to brave the Haunted Shop after dark? Admission is just$3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Safe Trick or Treat is from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium. The Burlington Police Department joins local organizations and businesses in providing a safe alternative to trick-or-treating. This event is free and open to the public.

City-Wide Trick-or-Treat is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Greater Burlington.

Tuesday, Nov. 1

Drop-In Tech Help is available from 3 to 4 p.m. at Burlington Public Library. Bring your smart phone, tablet, Chromebook, iPad, Kindle or other tech device that’s giving you grief to the library – knowledgeable library staff can help! This program is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

Holiday Décor Demo at 5:30 p.m. at Red Screen Door. The Red Screen Door’s Jerry Johnson is a local byword when it comes to gorgeous holiday décor – this fun, free event lets you learn all Jerry’s secrets! Don’t miss the holiday window unveiling.

Itty Bitty Bits of Art begins at Art Center of Burlington. This little art show and sale runs through Nov. 18 and is a BIG hit with holiday shoppers! Come see what one-of-a-kind finds you can discover. Hours vary.

Cornerstone Trivia at 6 p.m. at Cornerstone Wedding & Event Center. Check out Greater Burlington’s newest event venue during a fun trivia night! $10 per person for teams up to six. Snacks will be provided and beverages available to purchase. Prizes for the winners – and the losers.

Mindfully Me at 4:15 p.m. at Burlington Public Library. Drop in for an hour of yoga and mindfulness practice with literary elements. Kids will learn fun yoga poses, breathing regulation, calming techniques and how to regulate theiremotional weather. No experience needed and registration is not required; best for ages 4 and up.

Friday Night Art Hop is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Art Center of Burlington. Need an adult moment – or 90 or them? Drop the kids (age 3 and up) at the Art Center for a fun evening of stories, art projects and snacks. $10 per child; children must be potty-trained or accompanied by a caregiver.

Manhattan Blockade Album Release Party at 6 p.m. at Wake N Bake Breakfast Co. Local talent makes good: come celebrate with live music from LOVESBLIND, Ali & August, The Slow Retreat and more.

Monsters of Mock at 7 p.m. at Capitol Theater. Relive the glory days with the music that once poured from your dashboard tape player. Monsters of Rock brings four iconic rock & roll bands to life with tributes to REO Speedwagon, John Cougar Mellencamp, the Steve Miller Band and Cheap Trick. Autumn Canoe/Kayaking is from 8 to 10 a.m. at Big Hollow Creek Recreation Area. Join Des Moines County Conservation for a kayaking/canoeing program at Big Hollow. Kayaks/canoes, life vest and paddles will be provided. Please dress for the weather! Registration is required; call (319) 753-5808 to register. Participants will meet at the Big Hollow kayak/canoe launch. The program is free and open to the public.

That’s Yesterday’s News from 10 to 11 a.m. at Burlington Public Library. Check out Greater Burlington’s history ‘through the pages’ as local historian Terry Abrisz offers a tour into yesteryear guided by newspaper headlines and advertisements of days gone by. This month: Iowa Hawkeye icon Nile Kinnick is featured. Light refreshments provided. This event is free and open to the public.

KidSymphony at 4:30 p.m. at Capitol Theater. The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra presents its annual KidSymphony with professional storyteller Michael Boudewyns. Adult tickets to KidSymphony are just $5, and kids are admitted free.

Drag & Draw from 5 to 8 p.m. at Art Center of Burlington. Learn to draw the human body with fabulous models – artistic ability not required! The Gallery lounge will be open with beer, wine and charcuterie. $25 per person includes all materials and instruction. Don’t want to draw? Enjoy the show for just $15.The Highwaymen at 7 p.m. at Legacy Theater in Carthage, Illinois. This musical tribute to country music’s iconic supergroup recreates the roles of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. A must-see for country music fans! Homeless Shelter Fundraiser starts at 5:30 p.m. at Moose Lodge #579, 2529 Mount Pleasant St. Social hour goes until 6:30 p.m. Dinner is included from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dueling Pianos from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
