Holiday Open House is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Downtown Burlington. Discover downtown Burlington with this favorite local holiday event! Sales and specials abound, and you can register to win $750 in downtown dollars at each of two dozen participating businesses.

Bel Canto Chorale performs from 3 to 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Reasonable admission for adults helps support this all-volunteer organization; kids through high school age are admitted free.

Francis Verba at 5 p.m. at Gallery Lounge. Accomplished classical guitarist returns to the Gallery Lounge at the Art Center of Burlington as he concludes his US tour. Tickets are $15 and available at the Art Center or at the door. Cash bar.

Monday, Nov. 7

TV Trivia Night at 7 p.m. at The Broadway Café. Put those hours of watching television to work at The Broadway’s TV Trivia Night.

Tuesday, Nov. 8

Drop-In Tech Help from 3 to 4 p.m. at Burlington Public Library. Bring your smart phone, tablet, Chromebook, iPad, Kindle or other tech device that’s giving you grief to the library – knowledgeable library staff can help! This program is free and open to the public, and no registration is required – just drop in between 3 and 4 PM any Tuesday during November.

Chapter officers meeting at 6 p.m. at Moose Lodge #579, 2529 Mount Pleasant St. Membership meeting will follow at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 10

Lunch at the Top from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First United Church of Christ. Enjoy a homemade meal in the friendly social hall of this beautiful, historic church at the top of Snake Alley. World Travelogue Series: Portugal & Spain screens at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Capitol Theater. The Harry & Virginia Murray Foundation World Travelogue Series presents Rick Steves’ Portugal & Southern Spain. This event is free and open to the public.

Hike A Park: Starr’s Cave from 3 to 4 p.m. at Starr’s Cave Nature Center. Des Moines county Naturalist Jacklyn Goodman leads a three-mile hike through one of Des Moines County’s most beautiful and intriguing natural spaces, Starr’s Cave Park & Preserve. This event is free and open to the public; registration is not required.

Live! From Salem at 5 p.m. at Burlington Public Library. The Salem Witch Museum presents The Salem Witch Trials: Live! From Salem, an exclusive live-streamed educational program which immerses participants in the culture and history of this unique and impactful event in American history. Great Tastes at 5:30 p.m. at Catfish Bend Convention & Event Center. Enjoy the flavors of Greater Burlington at this fun fund-raising event. Silent and live auctions, too! Proceeds fund the educational initiatives of the Southeastern Community College Foundation, including local scholarships and grants.scciowa.edu

"Beauty and the Beast" at 7 p.m. at Aldo Leopold Middle School. Burlington High School music & drama students present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: The Musical. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students at the door.

Hit Man performs from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Moose Lodge #579, 2529 Mount Pleasant St. Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy and veggies will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 12

Blackhawk Craft Expo is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Southeastern Community College. Area crafters converge on Lauren Walker Arena at Southeastern Community College for this annual event. Find the best of handmade, homemade and direct sales – no admission fee.

Town Hall Meeting: The History of Danville at 1 p.m. at Des Moines County Heritage Center. From a stagecoach stop to a thriving town, learn about Danville’s history and evolution – and its amazing connection to Anne Frank. This event is free and open to the public.

Formal Fashion Show is from 5 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Garden Event Center. You don’t have to wait for February to attend a fabulous fashion week event – head for Heritage Garden Event Center and enjoy a fashion show extraordinaire with local designer Sarah Hall. Jackson Stokes Band performs at 7 p.m. at The Washington. He’s toured four continents and played alongside greats like Robert Cray and Ivan Neville.
