Neighborhood Block Party at noon at First Congregational Church. Join this free family event to meet new friends, share food and enjoy an afternoon of games and fellowship.

Solar Energy open house will be from 1-4 p.m. at the home of Steven and Mary Hoyer, 202 W. Oak St., Salem. The event is part of the American Solar Energy Society's annual Solar Tour. The Hoyers' home design is a traditional aging-in-place home but emphasizes energy efficiency. In addition to solar panels, it incorporates a heat pump for heating and cooling, and other features. Ultimate Frisbee at 2 p.m. at Burlington Area YMCA. Families and individuals age 8 and up are welcome to join. No equipment needed and no registration is required. Every other Sunday beginning this week. Stop at the Y or visit its website to complete a waiver prior to playing.

Soup Supper for Transitions from 5:30-7 p.m. at The Drake. Enjoy a meal with homemade soups, salad, bread, desserts and beverage, plus live music from Rena Carnes Meyers, along with silent auctions and 50/50 raffles. Cost is $20 with proceeds supporting Transitions DMC homeless shelter. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 4

Eric Litwin Family Performance from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Grimes Elementary School. Join the P.I.E.C.E.S. after school program for a free family event that’s sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike. Eric Litwin is the award-winning author of the "Pete the Cat" series, bringing early literacy and music together to educate, entertain and delight audiences of all ages.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

Artist to Artist from 6-8 p.m. at Art Center of Burlington. Working artists are invited to network with fellow artists, discuss challenges and opportunities in the area art scene and bring their own work for constructive critique and conversation. The forum is a collaboration between the Art Center of Burlington and the Fort Madison Area Arts Association. The forum is free and open to the public."Beetlejuice" at 8 p.m. at the Capitol Theater. World Travelogue Series: Cuba at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Theater. The Harry & Virginia Murray Foundation presents Brent Winebrenner’s Cuba: On the Edge of Discovery. This screening is free and open to the public.

Big Holloween is from 4-6 pm. at Big Hollow Creek Recreation Area Campground. This all-ages public event features trick-or-treating among the campers, hayrack rides, costume contest, a bonfire and s’more roasting.

Fright Night in the Campground is at 7 p.m. at Big Hollow Creek Recreation Area. Big Holloween continues with spooky park-after-dark fun, including live music from Cedar County Cobras and Haunted Hayrack rides through the “Timber of Terror.” There is a $5 per person charge for the Haunted Hayrack.
