Plane crashes into roof of two-story Texas home, photos show. Three people injured

A small plane crashed into the roof of a vacant two-story home in Texas, authorities said.

The Georgetown Fire Department responded to the scene just before noon Sunday, July 23, according to a Facebook post. Photos from the department show the wrecked plane on top of the house.

Three people inside the plane were taken to a hospital with “what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries,” the Georgetown Police Department said.

Fire officials said the occupants of the plane were coming back from a breakfast in Kerrville, about 100 miles away, when the plane’s engine began to fail, according to KXAN.

“(The pilot) just veered away from the apartment complex behind you, and I believe he just had to make that split second decision and ditched it into a single home instead,” City of Georgetown Battalion Chief Scott Gibson told KXAN.

Neighbor Shannon Hayes told KSAT the plane was heard making a noise that didn’t sound “good” before the crash.

Once it crashed, she said neighbors ran over to help.

“Two people climbed out of the airplane onto the roof and were asking for ladders while I was on the phone with 911,” she told KSAT.

Dylan King was one of the neighbors who also ran to give aid, according to KXAN.

“They were scared, they didn’t know what was going on,” he said of those onboard. ”They looked really confused. We had helped them down off the balcony and they were trying to jump through a hole in the roof. We opened the attic stairs and they got down that way.”

The three people onboard were released from the hospital the same day, KXAN reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, according to statements obtained by McClatchy News.

The FAA said the plane was a single-engine Beechcraft BE35.

Georgetown is about 30 miles north of downtown Austin.
