Plane makes crash landing at Geauga County Airport

Jan. 18—A twin engine plane with six people on board, including a federal prisoner, made an emergency landing Jan. 18 at Geauga County Airport.

According to the Middlefield Fire Department, the plane was headed from Youngstown to Detroit when there was a report of engine trouble. The pilot was directed to land at Geauga County Airport as that was the closest available at the time of engine issue.

According to the department, the plane did reach the runway but came in too fast and was unable to stop before continuing off the runway and crashing in a field. There was some damage to the aircraft.

The pilot, the prisoner and four federal agents were all uninjured, according to the department. Each was evaluated and signed a release.
